Several major roads in Quito will be closed on Friday, May 1, as the city prepares for Labor Day demonstrations expected to move through central and north-central areas.
Authorities say closures will begin around 7:00 a.m., with traffic restrictions expanding progressively as the march advances. The route is set to start near the Social Security building and continue toward Santo Domingo Square, affecting multiple intersections along the way.
The impacted areas include a wide stretch of key corridors and connecting streets through the city center, where access will be restricted as participants move through. Traffic disruptions are expected to shift throughout the morning and early afternoon depending on the pace of the march.
To reduce congestion, drivers are being advised to avoid the affected zones and use alternate routes such as Avenida Pichincha, Gran Colombia, Patria, 6 de Diciembre, Velasco Ibarra, Mariscal Sucre, and Benalcázar.
Traffic officers will be stationed at critical points to help manage flow and redirect vehicles. Even so, delays are expected, especially in areas near the march route.
Public demonstrations in Quito can lead to sudden traffic disruptions, particularly in central districts where major institutions and public spaces are concentrated.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and stay alert to changing road conditions throughout the day.
