Quito’s quality of life score edged down in 2026, reflecting ongoing challenges in key areas despite some positive fundamentals.
The city’s rating declined from 125 to 123.45, placing it in a moderate range overall. While Quito continues to benefit from its climate, healthcare access, and cost of living, several persistent issues are weighing on daily life.
Among the main concerns are high pollution levels, long commute times, and lower ratings for safety and purchasing power. Housing affordability also remains a pressure point, with property prices relative to income falling into a moderate category.
Living costs in Quito are higher than in some other Ecuadorian cities. Monthly expenses are estimated at about $2,146 for a family of four and $571 for a single person, not including rent. Housing costs can be particularly burdensome, with rents in some cases reaching up to twice the monthly minimum wage.
The data reflects user-reported experiences over the past year, offering a snapshot of how residents perceive everyday conditions. While Quito remains a major urban center with key advantages, the latest figures point to areas where improvements are still needed.
