Road repaving work in Quito was set to resume on April 11 after being halted for 38 days due to an asphalt shortage linked to the March 1 fire at the Esmeraldas Refinery.

The Municipality of Quito said that although Petroecuador had not officially confirmed full normalization of supply, recent partial deliveries made it possible to gradually restart construction projects across the city.

Authorities indicated that previously paused works would continue, while new projects would begin in areas such as La Floresta and San Isidro de Puengasí.

Among the roads scheduled for repairs were Oswaldo Guayasamín Avenue in Cumbayá, as well as Gaspar de Carvajal and Versalles streets near the Central University metro station. Other planned interventions included Carlota Jaramillo Street in Atucucho, Camilo Orejuela and Arrayanes streets in Guamaní, and Galte, Puruhá, and Princesa Toa streets in La Magdalena.

Work was also expected to continue on Camilo Ponce Street in Conocoto, along with sections of Simón Bolívar Avenue and Juan Bautista Aguirre Street in the Pío XII sector.

The municipality warned that construction would bring temporary traffic changes. In Cumbayá, one lane of Oswaldo Guayasamín Avenue heading toward Quito would be closed between the Cumbayá roundabout and Pampite Avenue, with traffic diverted through Diego de Robles Street and Pampite Avenue.

Near the Central University, work on Versalles Street between Colón Avenue and Bogotá Street would continue, with public transport rerouted via América and 10 de Agosto avenues.

On Gaspar de Carvajal Street, construction would move from Selva Alegre Street toward Gato Sobral Street over an estimated 45-day period, while the section between Mariana de Jesús Avenue and Selva Alegre remained open.
