Traffic restrictions remain in effect across Quito this Thursday under the city’s “Pico y Placa” system, limiting circulation for certain vehicles during peak hours.
- Applies to license plates ending in 7 and 8
- Morning restriction: 06:00 to 09:30
- Afternoon restriction: 16:00 to 20:00
The measure covers both vehicles and motorcycles within the Metropolitan District, with the goal of easing congestion during the busiest parts of the day.
To support traffic flow, authorities have implemented contraflow lanes on major routes, including Velasco Ibarra Avenue, Mariscal Sucre Avenue, the Guayasamín Tunnel, and the General Rumiñahui Highway.
Weekly rotation schedule:
- Monday: plates ending in 1 and 2
- Tuesday: 3 and 4
- Wednesday: 5 and 6
- Thursday: 7 and 8
- Friday: 9 and 0
Drivers who violate the restrictions face escalating fines:
- First offense: USD 72.30
- Second offense: USD 144.60
- Third offense: USD 241.00
Vehicles are not allowed to circulate within restricted areas during the designated hours, and enforcement is active throughout the city.
