A bakery in Quito has issued a public apology after a customer reported finding a razor blade inside a loaf of bread, an incident that led to the business being shut down.

The apology was posted on a sign at the bakery’s location in San Carlos, stating that the business took full responsibility and had implemented improvements to ensure product safety.

“…we extend our sincerest apologies for the recent incident. We have taken our responsibility very seriously, immediately implementing all the required improvements to ensure the highest safety standards for our products.”

The statement also pushed back against what the business described as inaccurate information circulating online and confirmed that legal action has been initiated against those spreading content it considers defamatory.

The incident came to light on April 12, when a woman reported finding a razor blade inside chocolate bread. Following the complaint, authorities intervened and closed the bakery.
