Heavy rain triggered a mudslide in southern Quito on the afternoon of May 3, affecting the Nueva Aurora area but causing no injuries or property damage.

The incident occurred in the sector of Nueva Aurora S41A and OE2G, where runoff carried rocks and debris onto the roadway after a stream became blocked upstream. The overflow pushed material downhill, temporarily affecting drainage in the area.

Emergency personnel were deployed, with local response teams assessing the situation on site. The event did not require intervention from the fire department, as there was no risk to residents or structures.

Cleanup efforts are underway:

  • Heavy machinery is being used to remove rocks and debris from the road
  • Crews are clearing clogged drains to restore proper water flow

Initial debris removal has already been completed, with ongoing work focused on keeping drainage systems open to prevent further accumulation.

As a precaution, a technical inspection has been recommended to evaluate conditions in coordination with local representatives.
