A vehicle was caught in a small landslide on the General Rumiñahui Highway on Sunday afternoon, April 5, after heavy rains affected parts of the city.
The incident occurred near Bridge 3 in Quito, where mud and debris slid onto the roadway and trapped a car. Emergency services received the alert at approximately 3:29 p.m., prompting a rapid response from authorities.
As a precaution, one lane in the direction of Valle de Los Chillos was temporarily closed while crews worked to clear the area and ensure safe conditions for drivers.
By around 4:15 p.m., officials confirmed that the highway had been fully reopened following cleanup operations.
Authorities are now urging motorists to drive carefully, as continued rainfall has left roads wet and potentially hazardous. Reduced visibility and slippery surfaces are increasing the risk of further incidents across the city.
At the same time, traffic officials reported additional accidents elsewhere in the capital. A multi-vehicle collision on Mariscal Sucre Avenue left several people injured, while another crash was recorded on Simón Bolívar Avenue in the Patrimonio Familiar and UIDE sectors.
Officials say conditions remain unstable due to ongoing rain and are advising drivers to allow extra travel time and remain alert on major routes.
