Communities in the Andean Chocó region northwest of Quito are dealing with flooding, landslides, and blocked roads after days of intense rainfall.
The situation worsened on April 16, when heavy downpours caused streams to overflow and triggered multiple emergencies across the area.
- Landslides and flooding reported in several parishes
- Streams overflowed, covering streets with mud and debris
- Key roads remain closed or difficult to access
The parish of Pacto has been among the hardest hit, where rising water overwhelmed drainage systems and left roads impassable. In nearby areas, recurring landslides along the Gualea–Pacto route have further limited access.
Several main routes remain closed, including:
- Quito–Nanegal–Nanegalito–Gualea
- Quito–Pacto–Paraíso
Emergency crews continue to work in affected zones, using heavy machinery to clear debris and reopen roads. Rescue personnel remain deployed across the region as conditions remain unstable and additional incidents are possible.
