Strong storms swept through Quito and surrounding valleys on Monday, causing flooding, fallen trees, and landslides across multiple areas of the city.

  • At least six emergencies reported by early evening
  • Four incidents concentrated in Tumbaco
  • Flooding, wall collapse, landslides, and fallen trees reported
  • Emergency crews deployed across affected zones

By around 6:00 p.m., authorities had recorded six incidents linked to the heavy rains and thunderstorms. Tumbaco saw the highest concentration, with two cases of flooding inside buildings, a previously identified wall collapse, and a fallen tree.

Elsewhere, a landslide was reported in Quitumbe, while additional trees fell along major roads in areas under the Eugenio Espejo Zonal Administration, creating hazards for traffic and residents.

Emergency teams moved quickly to respond. Five of the incidents were still being handled, while one had already been resolved.

City officials activated the Metropolitan Emergency Operations Committee, launching response protocols to coordinate efforts across agencies. Crews from the Quito Fire Department, the Metropolitan Transit Agency, the Metropolitan Public Company for Mobility and Public Works, and local administrations were dispatched to manage the situation.

The storms added to a series of weather-related disruptions across the region, with conditions continuing to test infrastructure and response capacity.
