A sudden storm swept across Quito on Tuesday afternoon, bringing heavy rain and hail that led to flooding and structural damage in several neighborhoods.

  • 18 emergency alerts reported after 2:00 p.m.
  • Flooding affected homes in southern Quito
  • Wall collapse reported in Santo Tomás sector
  • Hail and road flooding in Conocoto

The downpour followed a sunny morning, catching residents off guard as conditions quickly deteriorated. Neighborhoods including Conocoto, Guamaní, Chilubulo, La Ecuatoriana, and Turububama were among the areas impacted.

Emergency services responded to multiple incidents. In Chilubulo, several homes were flooded as water levels rose rapidly. In the Santo Tomás sector, a wall collapsed onto a sports field, adding to concerns about structural safety during the storm.

In Conocoto, hail fell alongside heavy rain, contributing to flooding on local roads and making driving conditions more dangerous.

Authorities have urged residents to use caution, particularly on the roads, as wet surfaces and reduced visibility increase the risk of accidents. Emergency teams continue to monitor conditions and respond to incidents as needed.
