An early-morning operation in northern Quito led to the arrest of four people and the closure of several establishments accused of allowing minors to enter brothels.

The intervention took place on Saturday, April 25, in the Whymper Street area, where authorities identified multiple irregularities in nightlife venues operating as tolerance centers. Officials said the operation was prompted by concerns over underage access and non-compliance with legal requirements.

According to authorities, four individuals were detained for their alleged involvement in permitting minors to enter these establishments. After being informed of their rights, the suspects were transferred to the Flagrancy Unit, where prosecutors will determine the next steps in the judicial process.

In addition to the arrests, several venues were shut down after inspectors confirmed they were operating without valid permits and had administrative violations. Authorities described the closures as part of a broader effort to enforce regulations and protect vulnerable populations.

The operation involved coordination between multiple agencies, including the National Police, the Metropolitan Control Agency, the Pichincha Intendency, local police units, and the city’s Security Secretariat.

Officials said similar inspections will continue across Quito, particularly in areas with a concentration of nightlife businesses. The focus, they noted, is to prevent illegal activity, ensure compliance with operating rules, and strengthen protections for minors.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about oversight in certain entertainment zones, where authorities say enforcement efforts will remain active in the coming weeks.
