One person died after a fall in a remote area of Rucu Pichincha, west of Quito, on April 22, 2026.
The incident occurred in a sector known as Bear Cave, an area with difficult access. Emergency crews reached the site, where firefighters confirmed the victim had no vital signs. The National Police later carried out the recovery of the body.
A second person was injured in the fall and received on-site medical attention before being stabilized.
Rucu Pichincha rises to 4,696 meters above sea level and is a popular destination for hikers and visitors, known for its trails and proximity to the city. Authorities are reminding visitors to take precautions when exploring the area.
