Authorities in Ecuador have issued a public warning after identifying 14 entities operating without authorization to collect money or offer loans in the country.
The alert highlights a growing pattern of digital platforms promoting quick loans and high-return investment schemes despite having no legal standing within the national financial system. These operations are not registered or supervised, placing users at significant risk.

Authorities warn that these groups operate outside the legal framework and primarily target users online. Many present themselves as legitimate financial institutions, using professional-looking websites and social media campaigns to build trust.
The schemes often follow a similar pattern. Users are attracted by offers of fast loans with minimal requirements or investment opportunities promising immediate returns. Once contact is made, victims are asked to pay upfront fees under various pretexts, such as processing, approval, or loan disbursement. After the payment is made, communication frequently stops or additional payments are requested.
Social media platforms and messaging apps play a central role in spreading these offers, often using fake testimonials and targeted advertising to appear credible.
Unauthorized financial activity remains prohibited under Ecuadorian law, yet these operations continue to evolve and reappear under new names. Authorities noted that at least 60 similar entities were identified in 2025, indicating the scale and persistence of the problem.
Officials are urging the public to verify the legal status of any financial institution before transferring money and to be cautious of offers that promise easy access to credit or unusually high returns.
