The government of Ecuador has confirmed an extended four-day holiday for Labor Day, creating a long weekend aimed at boosting tourism and domestic economic activity.
The measure was made official on April 4 through a decree signed by Daniel Noboa. Under the new schedule, the holiday will run from Thursday, April 30 through Sunday, May 3.
As part of the decree, Thursday, April 30 has been designated as a mandatory day of rest and will not be subject to make-up work. The rule applies to both public and private sector employees nationwide.
Authorities say essential services will continue operating throughout the holiday period. These include water supply, electricity, healthcare, emergency response, transportation services, and banking. Public institutions are expected to maintain minimum staffing levels to ensure continuity of service.
The extended break is expected to increase travel and activity across the country, with higher demand anticipated in popular destinations such as Cuenca and coastal areas.
Officials say the goal is to encourage domestic tourism and stimulate sectors such as hospitality, transportation, and food services during the long weekend.
