A new nighttime curfew will take effect across Quito and the province of Pichincha for two weeks in May, as part of a broader security measure announced by Ecuador’s president.
The restriction will apply daily from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., limiting movement during overnight hours.
- Curfew hours: 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
- Duration: May 3 to May 18
- Applies to Quito and all cantons in Pichincha
During those seven hours each night, residents will be required to remain in their homes, with no general freedom of movement or circulation.
The measure will cover all eight cantons in the province, including Quito, Cayambe, Mejía, Pedro Moncayo, Rumiñahui, San Miguel de los Bancos, Puerto Quito, and Pedro Vicente Maldonado.
Authorities said enforcement will be handled by the Armed Forces and the National Police.
While the announcement has been made publicly, officials noted that the formal executive decree had not yet been issued at the time of the report.
The curfew is part of ongoing efforts to address security concerns in several regions of the country.
