A deadly traffic accident in southern Quito on the morning of April 2 left at least two people dead after a public transport bus caught fire following a collision with a motorcycle.

Emergency crews from the Quito Fire Department responded to the scene and confirmed that two women died after becoming trapped inside the burning vehicle. Most other passengers were able to evacuate before the fire spread.

According to preliminary reports and videos circulating on social media, the bus was traveling at high speed and allegedly ran a red light before colliding with the motorcycle. The impact caused the motorcycle to become lodged beneath the bus and dragged along the roadway.

Fire officials said the blaze was likely triggered by the friction and fuel from the motorcycle as it was dragged, eventually igniting and spreading to the bus.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the condition of the motorcyclist involved in the crash.

The incident caused major disruption in the area, with the affected road closed in both directions for at least three hours while emergency teams worked to control the fire and clear the scene.

Following the incident, the Quito Fire Department urged drivers to respect traffic laws and avoid reckless behavior, emphasizing that such actions can have fatal consequences.
