Authorities in Quito rescued a dog named Logan after a video showing severe abuse by his owner circulated on social media, prompting an official response.

The city’s Animal Welfare Unit (UBA) and the Metropolitan Control Agency (AMC) intervened after receiving complaints about the case. Officials reported that the owner had beaten the dog with a stick while he was on the ground and had also caused injuries using construction materials.

When authorities arrived at the home, they found Logan—a medium-sized American Bully—chained and visibly distressed. After being removed from the property, the dog was found to have multiple injuries, including difficulty using his left hind leg and lacerations on one of his ears. His vaccination record was also outdated.

The owners reportedly said the dog had been chained due to concerns about aggressive behavior toward other animals.

Logan was taken to a municipal care center, where veterinarians confirmed a significant injury to his hind leg but no fractures. Authorities said he would undergo rehabilitation to recover both physically and emotionally before being placed for adoption.

Officials stated that the dog’s owners could face financial penalties for the mistreatment. The fines could range from minor sanctions for failing to maintain vaccinations to more serious penalties for abuse and prolonged chaining, with the total amount potentially reaching up to $6,000.

Authorities reiterated that investigations into animal abuse cases would continue and encouraged the public to report similar incidents.
