Authorities shut down an illegal bar operating inside a restaurant near the Central University area in Quito after discovering a hidden nightlife operation on the property’s second floor.

The inspection, carried out with support from the National Police, revealed that access to the bar was deliberately concealed. Patrons entered through the restaurant, passed through the kitchen, and then climbed stairs leading to a second-floor space that also connected to a hotel within the same building.

Inside, officials found around 200 people, including university students, adults, and staff working at the establishment. The setup had been adapted to function as a bar and nightclub without proper authorization.

This was not the first time authorities had attempted to inspect the site. During an earlier visit, staff blocked access to the upper level, preventing officials from confirming what was taking place. On the second operation, entry was achieved despite resistance and obstruction from employees.

Once inside, inspectors verified that the second floor was being used for activities not permitted under the establishment’s license, prompting immediate closure.

The owner now faces a fine of approximately $7,000 for operating outside authorized conditions.

The case highlights ongoing efforts to identify and shut down businesses that conceal unauthorized activities behind otherwise legal operations.
