Prolonged rainfall in northwestern Pichincha has caused flooding, landslides, and road closures in the rural parish of Pacto, disrupting access and isolating parts of the area.

The emergency followed roughly 17 hours of continuous rain beginning April 16, leading to multiple incidents across the region. Flooding was reported along the Pacto–Nanegalito highway, while landslides and an overflowing stream caused significant damage to local roads and infrastructure.

Authorities closed the main access route to Pacto in the Nanegalito and Nanegal sectors, before the entrance to Mindo, as a precaution to protect residents.

  • Access roads to Pacto closed due to landslides
  • Flooding and debris reported across streets
  • Overflowing stream overwhelmed drainage systems

The most severe impacts were concentrated in Pacto, where mud and debris left streets impassable. Landslides have also affected the Gualea–Pacto road, particularly in the El Paraíso sector, limiting movement and delaying emergency response.

Several routes remain closed, including Quito–Nanegal–Nanegalito–Gualea and Quito–Pacto–Paraíso.

Emergency crews from multiple agencies are working in coordination, with firefighters deployed on the ground and heavy machinery clearing debris in affected zones. Efforts to reopen roads and restore access began early April 17.

Authorities continue to monitor conditions as response operations remain active.
