A confrontation between a traffic officer and a security guard near the Jipijapa Metro station in Quito has drawn attention after video of the incident circulated online.
The altercation took place on April 17 in the north of the city and reportedly began during a traffic stop involving a vehicle parked on the sidewalk. As the officer attempted to address the situation, a security guard from a nearby establishment became involved.
Video of the incident shows the guard striking the officer with his knee, hitting his head. The officer then responded with several blows and brought the guard to the ground.
“Why are you kicking me? Look, you knocked my glasses off,” the officer can be heard saying during the confrontation.
