Roadwork on Galo Plaza Lasso Avenue began on April 10, bringing changes to traffic flow and public transportation along one of Quito’s main corridors.
The project focused on the rehabilitation of side lanes, with closures implemented in phases. The first section affected ran between Juan Barrezueta Street and De los Cedros Street and was expected to remain closed for 51 days.
Public transportation traveling north to south was rerouted as follows:
- Continue along Galo Plaza Lasso Avenue
- Turn onto Dalmau Street
- Proceed along Real Audiencia Avenue
- Rejoin Galo Plaza Lasso via Luis Tufiño Street
Private vehicles were able to follow the same detour or use alternative routes such as Diego Vásquez de Cepeda Avenue, Eloy Alfaro Avenue, and Del Maestro Avenue. The underpass toward Nazacota Puente remained open.
Despite the closures, key lanes stayed in operation. The central lanes of Galo Plaza Lasso Avenue continued open in both directions, and the southbound lane remained available for both public and private transport.
Work began at 10:00 p.m. on April 10. While the full project timeline was not specified, this initial phase was expected to last just over seven weeks.
