A traffic accident involving a taxi and a private vehicle left two people injured Thursday morning in southern Quito, disrupting traffic along one of the city’s main routes.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Morán Valverde Avenue and Quitumbe Ñan, according to the Metropolitan Transit Agency (AMT). The impact forced the closure of the right lane at a nearby roundabout, causing congestion in the area during the morning hours.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and AMT personnel, arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters provided medical assistance to the injured individuals, while transit officials worked to manage traffic flow and secure the area.
Images from the scene showed one of the vehicles with severe damage on its left side after being struck and pushed into a lamppost. Both vehicles deployed their airbags, and significant material damage was reported.
Authorities conducted breathalyzer tests on both drivers involved in the collision, with results indicating that neither had been under the influence of alcohol.
Officials said traffic was expected to return to normal shortly after the damaged vehicles were removed from the roadway.
The incident adds to a series of traffic disruptions reported across Quito on April 2, as authorities continue to urge drivers to exercise caution and follow traffic regulations to prevent further accidents.
