Aeromexico has resumed direct flights between Quito and Mexico City, restoring a key international connection that had been unavailable for nearly two years.
The route relaunched with four weekly flights, offering travelers a faster and more convenient option to move between Ecuador and Mexico. The return marks a significant step in rebuilding Quito’s international flight network, which had been disrupted in recent years.
The nonstop service cuts travel time to about five hours, replacing longer itineraries that required connections and often doubled total travel time. Even during the suspension, demand between the two countries remained steady, with passengers continuing to travel through indirect routes.
The restored connection is expected to support:
- Tourism between Ecuador and Mexico
- Business and commercial travel
- Family visits and cross-border connections
Round-trip fares are averaging around $450, making the route accessible to a broad range of travelers.
Passenger traffic between the two countries had declined by about 35% between 2023 and 2025, a drop partly linked to the loss of direct service. The relaunch now offers a path to recover those numbers.
The route is being operated with a Boeing 737 MAX 8, with capacity for more than 160 passengers. The schedule also allows connections within Ecuador, including onward travel to Guayaquil, expanding the route’s reach beyond Quito.
Airport officials see the return as part of a wider recovery strategy, with additional international routes expected in the coming months. Among them is a planned restoration of direct service to Santiago later this year.
With expanded terminal capacity and renewed airline interest, Quito is working to rebuild its position as a key international gateway, starting with the return of direct service to Mexico City.
